about the Resource Department

Welcome to the Resource Web Page. At St. Theresa School, we recognize that children learn in different ways, and we strive to assist children to reach their potential.

The Resource program typically serves the child struggling with reading, but I also work with children who have diagnosed learning disabilities such as: Dyslexia, Visual Processing Weakness, Auditory Processing Weakness, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and Attention Deficit Hyper-Activity Disorder (ADHD.)

I am trained in the following Lindamood Bell Teaching Methodologies: Seeing Stars, Visualizing and Verbalizing, LIPS, and On Cloud Nine. I have also completed training in Brain Gym (ADHD) and Zoo Phonics.

I test students using The Early Reading Diagnostic Assessment-Revised (ERDA); Lindamood Auditory Conceptualization Test-Third Edition (LAC-3); Gray Oral Reading Test-Forth Edition (GORT-4); and also Slingerland Screening Tests for Identifying Children with Specific Language Disability.

The steps to a referral to the Resource program are as follows:
If the homeroom teacher feels that a child is having difficulty, that teacher would fill-out a referral to Resource form, explaining the area of concern.
Next, a permission slip is sent home, explaining why the teacher is concerned, and requesting parent's permission for the child to meet with the Resource Teacher.
Once permission is granted, I would test the child's reading comprehension (or reading readiness if a Kindergartener or beginning First Grader.)
The results of the test help me to determine the area of weakness, or if further testing is necessary.
An individual learning plan is developed for each child in Resource, with the ultimate goal of achieving grade-level reading comprehension.
The testing results are shared with the parents, homeroom teacher and principal, and the child's progress is monitored and communicated with the parents, teacher and principal throughout the school year.

www.rfbd.orgRecording for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D) is an organization that provides textbooks and novels on tape for children diagnosed with Dyslexia and Visual Processing Weakness. A family pays a yearly membership fee, and then orders the books on-line or by telephone. The recorded books can be sent home or directly to school. The tapes arrive in postage paid mailing containers.
www.theraproducts.comThis is a website where you can order special pencil grips, and supplies for your child's occupational therapist recommended needs.
LindamoodBell.comLindamood Bell is a specific teaching methodology that I use with some of my students. Lindamood Bell's "Seeing Stars" Program is the program I use with children who are dyslexic or have weak visual processing. "Visualizing and Verbalizing" is the program for the child who struggles with comprehension, and "On Cloud Nine" is a primary grade program for mathematical concepts.
